Ruihan Kee

bassoonist   //   pianist   //  educator

Ruihan Kee is a versatile bassoonist who explores diverse repertoire ranging from baroque to contemporary. Also a baroque bassoonist, her interest in historical performance has developed her innate sensitivity to musical styles, allowing her to excel in both chamber and larger orchestral settings.

Born in Singapore, Ruihan moved to the UK to study with Andrea de Flammineis at the Royal College of Music, where she graduated with honours in 2016. She recently completed her Masters of Music degree at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Robin O’Neill and Jonathan Davies, and holds a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in teaching.

In London, she collaborated with esteemed conductors such as Edward Gardner, Ludovic Morlot, and Philippe Herreweghe. Notably, she performed as Principal Bassoon at the Royal Festival Hall with Semyon Bychkov. She played alongside prestigious orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Philharmonia Orchestra, and was a fellow at Southbank Sinfonia for the 2022-23 season, making regular appearances in London and across Europe.

Recently returned to Singapore, she is freelancing regularly with groups like Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Orchestra of The Music Makers and Musicians’ Initiative. She shares her musical ideas through various platforms of teaching, embracing the opportunity to contribute to the vibrant local scene.

Ruihan strongly believes that classical music is for everyone. Alongside her performing work, she actively engages in the community arts, most recently with the Royal London Hospital and Singing with Friends at Wigmore Hall. Her passion in early years music development accompanies her training with Wigmore Hall's Chamber Tots: Early Years Training and Development Scheme.

She is honoured to be one of the Yamaha Music Europe Foundation scholars for 2022 and named Winner of the Florence Woodbridge Bassoon Prize 2022.
